P.J. Joseph slams CPI(M) over PM SHRI scheme

Kerala

Kerala Congress chairman P.J. Joseph on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the CPI(M), accusing it of signing the PM SHRI scheme by keeping the people of Kerala in the dark.

Inaugurating a protest meeting at Thirunakkara in the evening, Mr. Joseph alleged that the CPI(M) had even misled its long-time coalition partner, the CPI, before endorsing the project. “It’s not just the people of Kerala who were kept in the dark, even CPI State secretary Binoy Viswom and CPI general secretary D. Raja were not taken into confidence,” Mr. Joseph said.

Taking a dig at the Kerala Congress (M) led by Jose K. Mani for extending `unbridled support’ to the CPI(M) on the issue, he quipped, “Theirs is a party that raises its hands for whatever the CPI(M) puts forth.”

The protest meeting, held as part of the party’s intensified campaign against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government ahead of the local body elections, highlighted the alleged betrayal of promises and anti-people measures by the LDF.

Kerala Congress working chairperson P.C. Thomas presided over the event. Executive chairperson Mons Joseph, MLA, delivered the keynote address. Secretary general Joy Abraham, deputy chairperson T.U. Kuruvila, former MP Francis George, State Coordinator Apu John Joseph, and several others also spoke.

The event saw the participation of office-bearers from the party’s State, district, Assembly, and ward-level committees, along with leaders of various feeder organisations.
