An orange alert warning of very heavy rainfall has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts of Kerala on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
A weather update issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also sounded a yellow alert for the remaining districts in the State, where isolated heavy rainfall is likely during the next 24 hours.
During the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Thursday, Quilandi station in Kozhikode recorded the highest rainfall of 14 cm, followed by Irinjalakuda in Thrissur (9 cm) and Vellanikkara in Thrissur, Ernakulam South, Thrithala in Palakkad, and Angadipuram in Malappuram with 7 cm each.
Twin weather systems
The twin weather systems formed over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are triggering the rainfall across the State.
The weather system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move towards the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, while the depression over the Arabian Sea is slowly moving away from the coast of Kerala.
