Continuous heavy rain in the hilly regions of Kannur, Kerala, triggered flash floods in Cherupuzha on Monday night, inundating two houses and a business establishment.
At Prappoil, a compound wall collapsed onto a nearby house, though no casualties were reported.
Local residents said water levels rose rapidly following hours of intense rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
Heavy rain continues to lash several parts of Kerala. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on Tuesday, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall.
A yellow alert is in place for Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alapuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
Authorities have urged residents in landslide-prone and low-lying areas to remain vigilant as the rain is expected to continue for the next few days.
