“Even at 97, my small world is confined to stories,” writer T. Padmanabhan has said. He was inaugurating a photo exhibition titled ‘Kaalam: Mayachitrangal’, a tribute to the late M.T. Vasudevan Nair, organised as part of the Thalassery International Film Festival on Friday.
Mr. Padmanabhan described MT as a writer who kept growing with time, expanding his creative world from short stories to novels, plays, screenwriting, and direction. Sharing memories of their early days, he said MT had created powerful visual moments in Nirmalayam, a film far ahead of its time.
“It is unthinkable today that such a film could be made decades ago. Now, a film faces hurdles even before completion — from food and costume to the title itself,” he said, adding that though he confined himself to short stories, he remained content with the space.
The exhibition, curated by film historian and photographer R. Gopalakrishnan, features around 100 photographs capturing memorable scenes from MT’s film journey.
Speaker A.N. Shamseer was the chief guest at the function held at the Liberty Theatre pavilion. RUBCO chairman Karai Rajan presided, while Chalachitra Academy chairperson Prem Kumar spoke.
The event also expressed solidarity with the children trapped in Gaza.
