The Ernakulam Rural police organised a musical event at Athani near Nedumbassery on Monday (October 13, 2025) as part of their anti-drug initiative.

On Monday (October 13, 2025) evening, over 25 singers, including professionals and amateurs, gathered at Athani near Nedumbassery to sing drug menace away.
The unique musical event was organised by the Ernakulam Rural police as part of their initiative to build what they call a people’s resistance against rising drug menace.
The karaoke event, planned to create awareness against increasing incidents of drug peddling in the region, will go on till October 18. Police officers from the Aluva sub-division and Ernakulam rural district will participate in the event, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Those interested in singing can participate by registering at the venue, the police said.
The police have set up sound system at a stage at the Athani Airport Signal Junction for the programme. Each day, prominent people will attend the programme.
District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha inaugurated the event. “The event is aimed at using the powers of music to free society from the influence of toxic substances,” she said. Playback singer Joby John was the chief guest. Deputy Superintendent of Police T.R. Rajesh delivered the keynote address. Additional Superintendent of Police M. Krishnan and Police Officers Association district secretary M.V. Sanil also spoke.
The rural police had recently organised a movie screening for migrant labourers in and around Perumbavoor, aiming to create awareness against drug abuse.
