A large number of aided school teachers and differently-abled applicants for teachers’ posts took out a protest march to the Kozhikode collectorate on Monday (October 13) against the alleged government apathy towards their plight.
Appointments in aided schools have been in limbo for the past few years over the reservations for the differently-abled applicants. Many of the teachers are yet to get approval for their appointments and are working on a daily wage basis. Some of the others have notional approval, but are yet to get regular salaries, even after five years in service.
Opening the protest, M.K. Raghavan, Kozhikode MP, said that as many as 25,000 teachers had been affected by the crisis. He also alleged that, though it had been proved that many undeserving candidates had managed to get appointments under the differently-abled category, the government had not taken action against them. Leaders of the Kerala Students’ Union and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad expressed their solidarity with the protesting teachers.
