Speaker A.N. Shamseer formally released the revised Kerala State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and presented the annual Biodiversity Awards instituted by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) on Tuesday.
In his address, the Speaker stressed the need for science-backed strategies to counter climate change and biodiversity loss. “Scientific studies and region-specific action plans are essential to address the increasing environmental challenges including human-wildlife conflicts,” he said.
He also highlighted the disruption caused by unchecked human interference in natural systems. The impacts of such interventions are now manifesting in the form of extreme weather events and ecosystem degradation, the Speaker cautioned.
Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran released KSBB’s 20-year activity report on the occasion.
