The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) reportedly reached a consensus concerning the appointment of KPCC general secretaries on Monday.
However, a Congress insider said that a general agreement on the appointment of District Congress Committee (DCC)-level office bearers and chief DCC presidents reportedly eluded the PAC.
Moreover, he said, some PAC members demanded that the party follow strict hierarchical norms while elevating members to the level of KPCC general secretary.
“Senior leaders might feel passed over for the post of KPCC general secretary if those who have not served the party in the KPCC secretary’s post are elevated in the rank and file”, he added.
The PAC also reportedly aimed to balance the party’s reorganisation by giving proper weight to community, caste, and age demographics, rather than factional interests, turning the KPCC into a broader platform for different social groups ahead of the local body polls and the 2026 Assembly elections.
The PAC also decided to intensify its agitation against the government regarding the alleged theft of valuable objects for private use and profiteering from the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple.
The KPCC will organise four “Mekhala Jathas” across the State to put the government on the defensive on the Sabarimala controversy, and also to press for the demand of Devaswom Minister V. N. Vasavan and Travancore Devaswom Board president, P. S. Prasanth.
The campaign will culminate in a “Maha Sammelanam” at Pandalam.
