Koothuparamba MLA K.P. Mohanan was attacked and manhandled by local residents at Panoor in Kannur, Kerala, on Thursday (October 2, 2025) morning during a protest over a garbage issue linked to Kariyad Thanal Dialysis Centre.
The incident occurred when the MLA arrived to inaugurate the Peringathur anganwadi.

Residents, including women who had been agitating for months, alleged that untreated waste from the dialysis centre was being discharged into their locality. They accused the MLA of ignoring repeated complaints and failing to intervene despite being informed several times.
The protest turned violent when the demonstrators confronted the MLA, leading to the attack.
Police have been deployed in the area to prevent any escalation of tensions.
