The 11th edition of the annual kayaking expedition named Chaliyar River Paddle will begin from Nilambur on October 3. The three-day kayaking tour, aimed at the conservation of the Chaliyar river and promotion of adventure water tourism, is claimed to be the second longest such event in Asia.

Aryadan Shoukath, MP, will inaugurate the expedition near Government Manavedan Higher Secondary School, Nilambur, on October 3 afternoon. P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, will flag off the tour. The expedition will conclude at Cheruvannur in Kozhikode district on October 5 evening.

Different types of kayaks will be used in the expedition, including stand-up paddles, sail boats, and canoes. Jellyfish Water Sports Club, Kozhikode, is organising the event in association with the State Tourism department and Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society.

The event is set to feature 75 paddlers from across the country, with participants ranging in age from 10 to 70 years old. They will paddle 68 km along the Chaliyar from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The organisers said that they expected to collect around 2,000 kg of floating waste from the river within three days. Those who wish to take part can register until October 1. For details, the organisers can be contacted at 94008-93112.
