The Kerala Women’s Commission has suo motu ordered a probe into allegations that Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil had misbehaved with women.
The commission directed its director Shaji Sugunan to register a case under Section 17 of the Kerala Women’s Commission Act, conduct a preliminary inquiry, and submit a report.
It was acting on media reports about grievous offences committed against women that have emerged over the past few days.
Mr. Sugunan will examine if any complaints have been received at any police station or if the police have registered any case in connection with accusations of improper behaviour made by multiple women against the MLA, commission chairperson P. Satheedevi said.
If the commission receives evidence that offences were committed, it will direct the State Police Chief to register a case, she added.
