Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former MLA M. Narayanan, 73, passed away at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital following age-related illnesses.
He represented the old Hosdurg constituency twice from 1991 to 1996 and from 1996 to 2001. During this tenure, he significantly contributed to the development of the constituency.
Before entering politics, he worked as a postman for 18 years. He began as an All India Youth Federation (AIYF) activist and later served as CPI Kasaragod district council member, Kanhangad constituency secretary, and State secretary of Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Federation. He also served as the State secretary of the Adivasi Mahasabha and district president of Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union.
Throughout his career, Narayanan actively participated in grassroots-level movements, notably through hunger strikes that garnered Statewide attention.
He is survived by wife K.M. Sarojini and children Sheena, Shimjith, and Sheeba.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam, and Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran condoled the death of Narayanan.
