Torrential rain has been lashing Thrissur city for the last few days. A scene from the Sakthan bus stand on Saturday.

As torrential rain continues to batter Thrissur district, several houses across multiple taluks have suffered damage due to fallen trees and strong winds. The district administration has opened relief camps and issued precautionary instructions.
In Talappilly taluk, a teak tree fell on a house in Varavur village on Saturday, causing partial structural damage. At Edathirinjhi village, the roof of a house was partially torn in strong winds. A jackfruit tree crashed onto a house at Manalur village, while in Chavakkad, a branch from a jackfruit tree landed on a house causing heavy damage. At Chellakode, a house was damaged after a tree fell onto the building.
In Mukundapuram taluk, a tree collapsed onto the terrace of a house at Padiyoor village, partially destroying the structure. Similar instance was reported at a house at Pulimattam village in Kodungalloor taluk. In Thrissur taluk, two houses at Kurumbilavu village and Manalur were damaged after trees fell on them.
Relief camps
With multiple families forced to evacuate, the district administration has opened three active relief camps. These are located at Methala Community Hall in Kodungalloor, Government J.B. School, Cherpu, and GVHSS, Cherpu . Currently, 132 people from 33 families have taken shelter in these camps.
District Collector Arjun Pandian has directed all departments to remain on high alert. Authorities have been asked to take pre-emptive measures against landslides and manage dam openings with utmost caution. The Collector also stressed the need to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable zones and maintain coordination between departments to manage emergencies effectively.
