Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty has directed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the Electrical Inspectorate to carry out urgent inspections of overhead power lines in the State.
The direction was given in the wake of the death of Midhun, a 13-year-old student of the Boys’ High School, Thevalakkara, who was electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire at his school.
According to the Minister, an examination of recent electrical mishaps has underscored the need to step up the inspection of electrical lines.
It is also advisable to offer awareness classes on electrical accidents to school students, Mr. Krishnankutty said. The Energy Management Centre has been directed to organise sessions in this regard in collaboration with the General Education department.
