Medical Colleges Andhra Pradesh: Domicile Rules
For admissions to MBBS and BDS courses under the Andhra Pradesh state quota, candidates are categorised as either local or non-local. According to the AP NEET admission policy, local status is determined by affiliation to the Andhra University (AU) and Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) regions. The AU region comprises eight districts, while SVU includes five.
Non-local candidates are eligible to compete for only 15 per cent of unreserved seats. In contrast, local candidates can apply for both the 15 per cent unreserved and 85 per cent region-specific seats.

A candidate’s local status is established based on their association with the AU, SVU, or Osmania University (OU) regions. For the NEET UG 2025 admission cycle, candidates are advised to know the district breakdown.
For NEET 2025, the Andhra Pradesh domicile criteria define who qualifies as a local candidate for admission under the state quota. A candidate is considered local if they have either studied in an educational institution located within a designated local area for at least four consecutive years or have resided in that area for the same duration, immediately preceding the qualifying exam year.
Candidates who do not meet the above condition but have studied for seven consecutive academic years anywhere within the state may still be deemed local. In such cases, their local area status depends on:
–The region where they’ve spent the majority of those seven years
