Case against BJP councillor for comments on national flag

Kerala

The police have registered a case against former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national council member N. Sivarajan for his comments suggesting that the national flag be replaced with the saffron flag associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The Palakkad Town South police summoned Mr. Sivarajan under BNS Section 192 for wantonly giving provocation for riot. Mr. Sivarajan said he would appear before the police on July 7.

Mr. Sivarajan, who is currently a municipal councillor of the BJP in Palakkad, had said here last week that Indian national flag be replaced with the saffron flag. He had also suggested that the Congress use green flag and Sonia Gandhi and her son Italian flags. He even suggested the CPI(M) use green and white flag.

Both the Congress and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) had complained to the police about Mr. Sivarajan’s controversial remarks seeking that sedition be charged against him.
