A tribal youth was allegedly stripped, tied up, assaulted and made to stand in rain for over an hour in Attappady. The police registered a case on the basis of a complaint by Siju Venu, 19.
According to the complaint, Siju was attacked by a few persons who came in a car while standing on the road on May 24. He said the police registered a case against him on the basis of a complaint by a vehicle owner, but refused to act on his complaint.
Siju was admitted to the Government Tribal Taluk Hospital, Kottathara, with injuries on his body.
According to the police, the incident happened after Siju reportedly damaged the vehicle in a drunk state. The police said Siju, apparently under the influence of liquor, stopped the vehicle and threw stones at it and broke its windshield. The quarrel over Siju’s action led to the assault on him, said the police.
The vehicle involved belonged to a man named Joy, a resident of Sholayur in Attappady.
Siju said he was tied to a post and beaten up brutally. “They accused me of standing in front of their vehicle,” he said, adding that the local people rescued him from the attackers and took him to hospital.
