The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast “intense spells of rainfall with gusty winds reaching up to forty km per hour speeds” till 1 pm on Saturday (May 24, 2025) in seven districts in Kerala.
The IMD has declared a red alert for the Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Idukki, and Malappuram districts.

Revenue Minister K Rajan cautioned residents against travelling in the rugged regions of the State. The government has barred visitors from travelling to hill stations. Due to inclement weather, it has also banned tourism-related activities such as boating, trekking, kayaking, and other adventure sports.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has warned motorists to be cautious of waterlogged roads and reduced visibility due to the rains.
Uprooted trees caused blocked roads and temporary power outages in different parts of the State. Several houses also suffered partial damage, including those along the coastline, especially in Thiruvananthapuram.
The KSDMA has warned that the chances of landslides and landslips remain exceptionally high. It has warned people living downstream of major reservoirs and riversides to exercise extreme caution.
