The Kerala Police inducted 408 new recruits during a passing-out parade conducted at the Special Armed Police (SAP) parade ground in Peroorkada on Saturday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan received the salute and presented the Chief Minister’s Medals to Police and Forest department officers who had rendered outstanding service.
State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar, who addressed the recruits, said that policing in the modern era has become increasingly complex involving challenges that range from narcotics control to cybercrime. He exhorted the newly inducted officers to remain vigilant and technologically adept to meet the demands of contemporary law enforcement.
Training programme
The recruits who took part in the parade had completed training at the SAP, Kerala Armed Police (KAP) 1st Battalion and the KAP 3rd Battalion. Among them, 125 were from the SAP, 78 from the KAP 1st Battalion, and 205 from the KAP 3rd Battalion. Austin S. was the parade commander, while Krishna Sunil served as the second-in-command.
The nine-month basic training programme included a comprehensive mix of physical and intellectual development. Outdoor sessions focused on building stamina and discipline through physical fitness training, weapons handling, karate, yoga, swimming, self-defence techniques and firing practice.
The indoor sessions included topics such as the Constitution, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Motor Vehicles Act, VIP security, telecommunication systems, social media management, cybercrime prevention and personality development. The recruits also received instruction in forensic science, forensic medicine, penology, victimology and cyber forensics.
The recruits include postgraduates, including M.Tech and M.Sc holders; B.Tech graduates, other degree and diploma holders. Director General of Police Manoj Abraham, and Additional Directors General of Police S. Sreejith, H. Venkatesh and P. Vijayan also attended the ceremony.
